Dear diary

Dear diary what a dreadful morning I’ve had.  You remember the difficulties of the curtain well first thing this morning himself put up the second curtain, really in no time at all.  I mentioned it looked a little creased, not a problem came the reply, gravity will soon pull the creases out.  I may seem to be making an awful fuss about windows and curtains, this house was built in the 1960s and the fashion at the time was very large windows.  By sheer good luck the house is facing almost due south so when the sun is up it shines straight into the front of the house and warms up the living room and the bedroom.  With every positive there is always a negative, on a cold day the heat flows out through said windows, so curtains are a must.  As previously mentioned that part of the morning went well.

The disaster  came later.  I went to my desk to check my emails and delete the unwanted offers of a Russian bride.  A little later I opened the door to be greeted by water sloshing about all over the floor in the utility room.  This is the business part of the house containing the washing machine and the dryer plus the cat’s feeding tray and litter tray.  husband is responsible for looking after his cat.  I mentioned that the room looked a mess.  I suggested cleaning up.

The curious thing about water it is amazingly easy to pour, into a cup or in this case over the whole floor.  The reverse action of collecting up the flowing liquid is extremely laborious.  Husband had the idea of mopping up the deluge with paper towels, I, in my role of CEO of Household Management, explained that this would be an extremely time consuming business.  Better to get the  mop out of the cupboard and attempt to absorb the water.  This I did until only puddles were left, then I got the steam mop  and instructed him in its use.  Finally a small heater was brought in to dry up the last remaining moisture.

My husband is an intelligent man, ask him any question about political activities and the changes over the last two hundred years just don’t ask him to mop the floor .

TIME AND OTHER CONUNDRUMS.

It seems like just a few weeks ago it was January 2014 and very soon it will be January 2016.  Isn’t that mysterious?  I know perfectly well, if not scientifically, that time proceeds at different speeds during the 24 hour cycle.  In the morning young time gallops along so that I must be dressed and about my daily chores with scarcely time to catch my breathe for five minutes.  At two o’clock in the still dark morning time stands still and my mind whizzes around like an overwound machine.

Today’s task included putting up curtains in what is now the spare room.  Once upon a time it was a bedroom, now it appears to collect stray objects which have no proper home; a lap-top, an old radio, books and pictures that my son has no place for in his home.  Some difficult questions; how long do the curtains have to be, how wide?  Basic measuring questions a seven year old could sort out.  I resorted to holding them up against the window.

Then the really tricky bit, how do you get that long straight piece of tape bunched up so that its even all the way along. You domestic goddesses will have accomplished the task easy, peasy.  I grabbed the ends of the thread and pulled as hard as I could.  The curtain became rucked up very tightly for three inches, the rest was perfectly flat.  With sweaty fingers I eased out the folds and then started again at the other end.

Of cause at my height there was no way  I could fix each hook into the curtain rail, himself agreed to help and had no problem in reaching the rail with the now rather distressed curtain.  Amazingly the curtain is now up and himself is now breathing again.  You may have noticed I mention curtain in the singular, its partner will have to wait until we have recouped our strength.  And I haven’t even taken the Christmas decorations out of the cupboard!

THE TRIALS OF A CRUMBLING WOMAN.

Dear diary,

I have some good news to report, last Thursday I went out for a walk.  I know not a big event in most people’s calendar but for me something like coming first in a 5K race.  The sun was shining, the sky was blue and I stepped out on my own two feet.  The question of timing was important, the bus only comes once an hour how long would it take me to get to the bus-stop?  With husband beside me we calculated the minutes, as we approached the end of the path we saw the bus making its way to the terminus.  Hurray we would be at the bus-stop when it returned.  Success!  We went to the local shopping centre to buy some light bulbs and a chemical to remove the traces of mould on the sealant  in the shower.  Not the most exciting shopping expedition, but hey I was out.  We timed the return to within three minutes.  Definitely a positive, a step forward you might say.

A BOX OF DELIGHTS.

Saturday is definitely a Strictly night , https://youtu.be/strictly

This show just has everything, music, amazing lighting effects, colour and beautiful costumes.  All the characters; the wicked witch, Craig Revel-Horwood, the demanding father-figure, Len Goodman, the foolish extravagant clown Bruno Tallioni and the beautiful svelte fairy godmother Darcy Bussell who soothes every hurt and two beautiful narrators who steer us through the story . And the beautiful athletic chorus who amaze us with their vigorous, funny, dramatic dancing and we can stare at these lovely young people and maybe fall in love with one or two of them.  I shan’t tell you my favourites I’m sure you have your own.  In my mind’s eye I can see myself wearing a gorgeous gown, my hair piled high, my arms making graceful movements and my toes flicking and kicking in time to the music and in the arms of my handsome partner.  Who needs a chemical stimulant with a spell-binding show like this.
